It features the Octagrip pinblock for longer life and better tuning stability, a lower-tension wide-tail design for richer sound with a smaller footprint, and an all-maple inner rim, giving the soundboard and plate a stronger foundation.
Like the Steinway Baby Grand piano through Concert Grand piano, a maple inner rim absorbs almost no energy from the soundboard. Instead all of the board’s energy is focused into the room, giving a purer, deeper tone and sound of a much larger piano.
Other similarly priced pianos use rims made of maple mixed with mahogany – or sometimes engineered wood – that absorbs sound waves from the soundboard, resulting in a muddy sound and requiring a larger soundboard to make up for the energy wasted. That means you have to spend more on the piano and give up more of your room for the same amount of sound.
